Technological Harmony
A brand exploration for Cogent’s next phase. Every security brand sells fear, so this one doesn’t: paper, ink, moss, and a small robot who’s been out in the field.

Brand direction, version 0.1October 2026
01 · The brief
Every security brand looks like the same horror movie.
Red alerts, hooded figures, padlocks on shields: the category sells fear. Cogent’s agents do the opposite, so the brand should too.

Technology and nature, on the same side. The opposite of doom.
The brief, in one line
Act I · The idea
Calm until it matters.
I started with three words and held every later choice to them. Calm is the opposite of the category, precise keeps it a tool, and alive stops calm from going cold.

Precise

Alive
Act II · The mark
Don’t replace the mark. Fold it.
People already knew the old mark, so I kept its core and folded the ring around it instead of starting over. The name comes from co-agere, to drive together, and the band draws exactly that.

Act III · The system
Paper and ink do the work. Moss has to mean something.
02 · Colour
One accent, and it has to earn its place.
Security palettes run red, amber and blue at full volume. Here paper and ink do the work, moss is saved for focus and progress, and severity moves to earth tones, so a Critical still stands out without shouting.
03 · Type
A serif for reading, a sans for working.
Findings get read slowly, so they get a serif. The tools around them get a working sans, and mono only shows up where one character changes the meaning: counts, CVEs, IDs.

Act IV · The field
The agent’s been out in the field.
04 · Coge-bot
Same robot, grown over with moss.
Coge-bot already lived in the product, so I grew the brand onto him instead of drawing a new mascot. The moss ties him to the land; the eye stays clear because it’s how he tells you what he’s doing.
05 · Land and lines
Out in the sun, as if someone measured the view.
No hoods, no padlocks. Sunlit land, wide or up close, with people small in it when they show up at all. A thin layer of drafting marks keeps it engineered.

06 · Voice
Say what happened, what it means, what to do next.
The voice is the cheapest part of a brand to ship and the first thing people notice. Name the asset, give the real count, and let the facts carry the urgency instead of capitals and exclamation marks.
Act V · The brand at work
The same identity, inside the product.
Brand exploration applied to the product UI. These captures from the Cogent portal show how the type, landscape photography and Coge-bot work across a quiet starting point and the denser screens where work gets done.

Act VI · Together
One notebook, every surface.
The book closes the way an agency book does: everything on one spread, to check that it holds together.
Ink on open skyCalm until it matters.
